Metal roofs act like a drum when raindrops hit them, turning impact energy into airborne noise and resonance. Silent Roof is a specialised retrofit and installation solution that fixes this at the source by interrupting resonance in profiled metal and hard-surface roofs.
How Metal Roof Rain Noise Works
- Drum Effect: Thin steel or aluminium panels vibrate freely when struck by water, magnifying sound into the space below.
- Installation Variables: Direct attachment to open battens creates hollow air chambers that amplify noise, whereas solid roof decking or dense insulation dampens it.

How the Silent Roof Material Works
- Surface Interception: The system uses a specialised, UV-stabilized black material (Silent Roof Material or SRM) made of an open, multi-dimensional lattice of bonded polyamide filaments.
- Shattering Raindrops: When raindrops strike the smooth upper grid structure, the impact energy breaks up and shatters silently, rather than hitting a hard sheet-metal drum surface.
- Gentle Trickling: Water trickles down through the porous 3D matrix inside the matting and drips softly onto the roof surface below without transferring loud percussive noise.
- Drainage Flow: Once the water reaches the original roof surface, it flows naturally into the standard building drainage and gutter systems.
- Low Wind Resistance: The open-lattice design and exterior anchoring system let air pass through easily, making it secure and unaffected by high winds or severe weather.
