Storm Eunice – 18 February 2022

Storm damage -o2

Damage was caused to the O2 Arena during storm Eunice. Sections of the fabric roof of the venue, formally known as The Millennium Dome, were shredded by the force of the storm’s winds on 18th February 2022.

One question that Silent Roof Ltd are asked on a regular basis is “How secure is a Silent Roof installation in stormy weather conditions?” The image below is that of a recent Silent Roof installation taken shortly after storm Eunice had passed through the UK. The installation is on the 10th floor of a building exposed to the elements. We are pleased to report, as you can see, neither this nor any other of our completed installations suffered any damage as a result of storm Eunice or any other of the recent storms of 2021-22.

NBCUniversal has utilised Silent Roof Rain Noise Reduction Technology on a warehouse conversion in Albuquerque NM for a new studio complex. The project was announced in June when the media giant entered into a 10-year venture with Garcia Realty and Development to renovate and redevelop the warehouse location which is located at 1601 Commercial Street NE, into a state-of-the-art TV and film studio. Silent Roof Ltd was approached earlier in 2019 to send information and a sample of our Silent Roof Matting Material (SRM), to NBCU for evaluation purposes. Silent Roof – operating in the background on Sky One production.
Silent Roof Matting Material (SRM), reduces rain noise to a whisper for the filming of ‘Temple’ the new Sky Original on Sky One. In September 2018 the filming location known locally as the ‘Monster’ building in Southall London, was taken over for the filming of this Sky series adaptation of the Norwegian television Valkyrien, which first aired in 2017. It stars Mark Strong, Carice Van Houten and Daniel Mays and was commissioned on 23 August 2018. The roof of the building where certain sequences were shot, was totally covered with SRM protecting the sound recording of the production from rain noise interruptions and consequential additional costs associated with re-takes.
Daniel Milton (Mark Strong) is a surgeon who, driven by personal tragedy, operates an illegal clinic deep below London’s Temple tube station for those who either wish to remain outside the system, or for those desperate enough to seek treatment unavailable through conventional means. Aided by disgruntled underground worker Lee (Daniel Mays) and guilt-ridden medical researcher Anna (Carice van Houten), Daniel’s dangerous and unpredictable clientele test his morality to the limit. But if it means he can save the person he loves, it will all be worth it.
Since filming completed, the Silent Roof Matting Material has been removed from the ‘Monster’ and relocated to a building in Wembley, this soon to be a film set for Netflix. Silent Roof, use then reuse.
